If the Modding menu in Deep Rock Galactic shows the message "Modding has been disabled by a launch option", the game is starting with modding turned off. This can happen even when your Steam launch options look empty. Work through the checks below in order.
1. Check your Steam launch options
- In your Steam Library, right-click Deep Rock Galactic and select Properties.
- On the General tab, look at the text box under Launch Options. If it contains
-disablemodding, delete it. - Check the Selected Launch Option dropdown above the text box. If it is set to Safe Mode, change it to Play Deep Rock Galactic (DirectX 11) or (DirectX 12). Safe Mode adds
-disablemoddingautomatically. - Close the Properties window and launch the game from the Play button in your Steam Library.
Note: Desktop shortcuts and launching the game's .exe directly can carry their own launch settings. Use the Play button in Steam while troubleshooting.
2. Remove mods installed by MINT
If you have used the MINT mod manager, it disables the in-game Modding menu while its mods are installed. Uninstalling MINT itself does not remove these mods, so the message will remain until they are cleared.
- Reinstall or open MINT.
- Use MINT's Uninstall mods option to remove the mods it installed.
- Launch Deep Rock Galactic from Steam and check the Modding menu again.
3. Remove leftover mod files manually
If the message still appears, leftover mod files may remain in the game folder.
- In your Steam Library, right-click Deep Rock Galactic, select Properties, go to Installed Files and click Browse.
- Open the
FSD\Content\Paksfolder. - Delete every
.pakfile exceptFSD-WindowsNoEditor.pak. Files left behind by mod managers often have names likemod_P.pak. - Launch the game from Steam.
Important: Do not delete FSD-WindowsNoEditor.pak. This is the game's main data file. If you remove it by mistake, use Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files in Steam to restore it.
