In order to have our marketplace solution available for games on all platforms, including home consoles such as the Xbox or PlayStation, or on mobile with Android and iOS; as well as globally in all territories, we have to rely on the use of virtual currency for transactions within the marketplace. It’s the most practical solution to a set of technical and contractual challenges.
Using virtual currency also means the price of premium UGC will be consistent globally, and not affected by local currencies, which prevent modders & creators from having to manage regional prices and currencies when selling their content.
It is however possible for publishers to choose to use either USD pricing or virtual currency pricing for their UGC Marketplace.
The virtual currency used within the marketplace is specific to each game. We’re a white label solution, allowing our partners to customize the user experience for their own game. This means the name for the currency might vary from one game to the other. Creator Credits is the name of the currency earned by Creators in their virtual wallet, which can be converted to USD and withdrawn.
